Super Mario Run Review – A Nostalgic Hit or a Mobile Miss?

What’s up, guys? Nintendo PR team sent me an early copy of the Super Mario Run and today we’re talking about it. Is it the Mario mobile game we’ve all been waiting for, or just another cash grab? Let’s find out!

So, Super Mario Run is Nintendo’s first big foray into mobile gaming. And I gotta say, it’s got that classic Mario charm, but… there’s a catch. It’s all about that one-touch gameplay: Mario runs on his own, and all you have to do is tap to jump, vault over enemies, or do some cool flips. For a mobile game, it feels pretty good—simple, right? And honestly, the controls? chef’s kiss.

Visually? It’s beautiful. Super clean, vibrant, and straight out of the Nintendo playbook. The levels are short, and that makes it perfect for a quick play when you’re waiting around. Now, let’s be real: if you’re a casual gamer, this might hit that sweet spot for you.

But, here’s where things get a little rough. After a few levels, the game throws up a giant paywall. You’ve got to cough up $10 to unlock the full game. And that right there is where things get tricky. For a mobile game? That’s pretty steep, especially when you realize that once you pay, there’s still not that much to do. You can play the main levels, but that’s about it. The Toad Rally mode? It’s… kinda frustrating. Losing doesn’t just set you back—it costs you precious Toads. So yeah, not really a mode you wanna play for fun, because it’s just a grind.

The thing is, Nintendo really tried to make this a premium mobile experience, but it feels like it missed the mark for a lot of people. Sure, it’s fun for a few runs, but after you hit that paywall, the game starts feeling like a Flash game you’d play for free online… but with a price tag slapped on it.

Is it worth $10? Eh… maybe if you’re a die-hard Mario fan, but for most people? Probably not.

Final Score:
6.5/10 – Great controls, solid visuals, but it falls short on content and progression. Not bad, but definitely not the Mario mobile game of our dreams.
